Watch the Skies 2015 Megagame Epilogue

watch the skies

We would just like to take the opportunity to thank everyone again for attending the first Megagame: Watch the Skies event in New Zealand and hope you had a great time. Here is a summary of events during the course of the game.

At the end of the scenario, the human race is in chaos and governments of the world have broken down after numerous nuclear detonations and disruptions to communications satellites and the internet network. In a way, by plunging the Earth into chaos and nuclear war, the Aliens achieved their objective of ensuring that humanity would never meaningfully leave Earth and pollute the universe with their presence.

At the 11th hour, the Aliens knocked out the satellites in orbit with a powerful solar flare leading to communications worldwide being disrupted. The Aliens also made last ditch efforts to destroy as much human knowledge of space travel and the like by neutralising foundations such as NASA .

As a last stand effort, the UN council members siphoned billions of funds and created their own advanced, fortified bunker for themselves to survive the calamity of global collapse and nuclear winter. The Russian and Brazilian delegates were not included in the safety of the bunker. Hopefully the humanity that emerges centuries later will do a better job with the world.

World leaders believed that the science community had abandoned them and built their own bunker in Canada. This bunker in Canada got nuked during the America-UK war with Canada.

America attempted to launch all its remaining nuclear weapons on the last turn. However, they exploded in their own missile silos due to them being sabotaged by the Russians beforehand. America’s vast nuclear arsenal accounts for most of their own devastation.

The Brazilians successfully deployed the sonic weapon that they had developed with use of the ancient alien artifact, and with the help of scientists interrogating a living captured Alien for a pinpointed location. It was targeted at the moon, destroying both the Alien staging bases there. It did not however stave off the larger, more advanced logistics base on Mars.

There were many notable tales during the day. Here are some of them:

The Alien Agenda:
They pulled an asteroid from the asteroid belt in between earth and mars, to use as a gift of resources. These valuable resources were offered to the Americans. Due to mistrust from the human delegates, mostly the Americans, they saw it as a threat. The scientists of earth developed a gravity assisted reverse tractor beam and hurtled it towards the sun.

There was the idea that the Aliens were eventually going to park this asteroid in Earth orbit and use it as a threat against humanity by flinging it directly into Earth when the time was right.

The Aliens successfully mind-controlled the Japanese/American scientists and positioned them as unknowing sleeper agents. However, they were never awakened or used.

France were the first successful country to shoot down a UFO, this made them mortal enemies of the Alien Conclaves (but strangely not the heroes of humanity).

The American president, whilst trying to find the location of the Alien base to use the Brazilian sonic weapon, leaked vital information to the press. The CCC then warned the Aliens of the sonic weapon and warned them not to trust America.

The Human Agenda:
The Collected Communications Corporation (CCC) managed to purchase an Alien corpse from the Japanese science community. Using this as their credible source to inform the world of the Alien threat in addition to the announcement made by the Brazilian prime minister. This lead to a large increase in global panic as well as an escalation in activities regarding the Alien crisis. The CCC had previous evidence from China of this but it was inconclusive to break the news.

The CCC eventually managed to fund a highly advanced spy satellite to spy on human communications, leading the them being the focal point of all intel.

The Americans got hated on by many within the UN due to their unilateral decisions without discussing with the other leading nations of the world. Especially after their unsanctioned invasions of Mexico and Canada. Mexico fell easily as was absorbed into America whereas Canada managed to stand their ground. This lead to the great American-Canadian war. Many lives were lost. Interestingly enough, their actions were justified as the invasion of Mexico did put a stop to a half-constructed Alien base there. The Alien base in Canada however remained a huge threat to humanity.

Early on, the UK initiated a false flag operation by pretending to be the Americans funneling money into the strengthening of ISIS. ISIS then took control of oilfields in the middle east and obtained greater backdoor funding as a result. They then went on to steal the Angolan nuclear weapons of mass destruction which greatly angered Angola, who were unable to do anything about it as they were originally trying to conceal their illegal nuclear capability from the UN. ISIS then, under instructions of the UK, launched that nuclear device on India. However, India later had her revenge by launching a nuke back at London when the Aliens and the CCC revealed that the UK was behind ISIS all along.

The ISS2 was originally founded as a cooperative space science station by Russia, India and China. However, unknown to India both of the other countries had smuggled nuclear weapons aboard. The Aliens, however, discovered this and disabled said weapons. Ironically, the Americans believed that the station was responsible for the nuking of India and wanted to unilaterally shoot down the space station, with or without the UN’s support. This lead to great discord within the UN as most members of the council saw this as an unwarranted action. Fortunately the station was not shot down by the Americans.

There was an attempt on the Russian Premier’s life. It is unclear who was behind it. This lead to the CCC receiving a communique from the Russian Premier which was to be opened on his death. Curiosity overcame their sense of integrity and they opened it anyway. Within the communique was a knowledge dump with information relating to the Japanese black op to recover the ancient artifact from Russia.

As mentioned before, Brazil, due to being in dire straits, decided to both publically reveal to the world about the existence of the Aliens as well as to let various members of world governments know that they were members of a race of deep ones; a precursor race that existed on Earth long before humanity developed and originally came from the deepest sea. They have been coexisting and evolving with the human race since the dawn of time and liked nothing more that to protect the world. From the onset, they knew about the Alien invaders but the Aliens did not know about them. They were strongly opposed to the Alien menace.

An Alien artifact appeared on earth during the course of events. Russia discovered it first. Both the Aliens and Brazilians were tasked with getting it (but were not provided specifics on where it was or what it would do when they found it). There was a bit of a scramble trying to get it, with the Aliens aggressively searching and attacking places that they believed this item was in. Meanwhile, the nations holding the artifact were either passing it around between themselves or actively trying to conceal it from Brazil, despite Brazil’s pleas. Eventually, at a certain point, due to the Aliens increased aggression, this artifact was given over to Brazil. This led to Brazil developing a sonic bomb weapon that only harmed and had the approximate ability to cover a 10km radius as well as summon a huge deep-sea Kraken from a different dimension to aid in its efforts to defend the Earth’s seas. The Kraken started eating some of America’s fleets whole.

As things headed towards the end, the UK/Australian scientists defected from their respective nations and started their own research base below the ocean, deep in the Mariana trench, just for the two of themselves. Their fate is unknown.

A small number of eighteen French citizens and two Indian citizens have fled the Earth to parts unknown in a rapidly cobbled together deep space mission. Chances of their success were quite unlikely as the Aliens still had advanced attack ships ready to launch from Mars. A valiant effort from the French/Indian nations.

All in all, this made for an amazing story and sequence of events that the players themselves created through their interactions throughout the day.
